First Post:

Hello, and welcome to Retrocarry. This blog is going to focus primarily on firearms reviews, history, and potentially some other topics. I look forward to sharing my thoughts with you all.

First, I want to explain the title. "Retrocarry" has been knocking around in my brain for a while, both as a mindset and an answer to a question. Firearms technology has evolved considerably in the past thirty years, with a near-total takeover of markets by polymer handguns, AR-15-style rifles and the "tactical" mindset defined by a fusion of economics, market factors and social forces, but that evolution has not necessarily 'solved' many problems in any way that couldn't have been solved with older gear, or with responsibility, or frankly that haven't been solved yet. For example, the question of capacity- how many rounds might someone need, or exactly how much it should weigh, or what specific trigger or features it should have, have no definitive right or wrong answer. For me, I've adopted somewhat of a 'retro' approach to my EDC. I suppose this is primarily an "if it ain't broke" approach, but it's also informed by some well-founded fears and practices. For example, I don't like the idea of a striker-fired pistol in AIWB, and I'm not terribly comfortable with AIWB as a concept in the first place when alternatives exist. Not to say I'll never try it, but so far, the antique answers work well.

Retrocarry is going to be a blog about solving 21st century problems with last-generation technologies and ideas. I hope it's informative!
